Breaking Up With Your Phone

Are Phones Ruining Our Lives?

THE THINKER

Hate to sound like the elders, but the phones may actually be ruining our lives. As much as we’ve benefited from our nifty little handheld devices, they’ve become such a detriment to many.

This has been on my mind for sometime now but a tweet prompted this newsletter. And being that we talk about personal development over here, it was a perfect topic to share, as I'm sure y'all can relate.

We all think we lead the busiest lives and don’t get me wrong, some people truly do. But let’s be real, so many people who complain about being behind and lacking usually don’t use their time wisely. It’s easy to spend time complaining but it’s a challenge to do something to change.

🧭 Time to Break Up

That health appointment you haven’t scheduled, the chair you need to put together, the 1 hour walk you promise to do each week, it’s possible if you put the phone down.

Social Media has made us feel like constantly TALKING about doing things is the same as taking real ACTION. Making post, relating to everyone in the comments, watching your fav creator do tutrials and saving them saying "I can do this same thing". But at the end of the day you just have saved post, wishful thinking, and ideas left in the notes app.

I’m guilty myself. It’s been a challenge putting my phone down and doing other things but since being way more intentional about it, there’s definitely been great improvements. More books read, more content made, more organic ideas, more exercise, and more cleaning getting done lol. So if I can start y'all definitely can!

Try spending 1 hour per day intentionally staying off your phone. Even at work. Yup I know you scroll on the clock lol. Cook that longer recipe, read 5 extra chapters, walk to the store, use your TikTok and Instagram time for one of those activities and see if you have more time in your day.

For my parents. I know this may be more difficult because kids can require consistent monitoring. But even so, read while they play instead of scroll. Take the family on a walk to the store.

See where your phone is taking up time in your life and give that time to something more useful and meaningful.

🔗 Final Note

Sometimes our phones add to burnout and stress. It's challenging staying balanced in this society but it's worth trying.
